Fabric & construction

Every fabric decision starts with one question: what happens when it’s wet.

Our standard

Modest on the hanger means nothing if it isn’t modest in the water.

Most swimwear is designed for a dry photo. Ours is designed for the moment you’re actually swimming — moving, stretching, coming out of the water and standing in the sun. That’s the only test that matters to us, so it’s the one we build around.

Every fabric batch is checked by hand before a style goes into production. If it doesn’t pass wet, it doesn’t ship.

Fabric properties

What’s actually in the fabric.

01

Opaque wet or dry

Tested under running water at full stretch before any style is approved for production.

02

Four-way stretch

Moves with your body in every direction, so nothing pulls tight or rides up mid-swim.

03

UPF 50+ sun protection

Blocks 98% of UV rays — built in, not an add-on, for long days by the water.

04

Chlorine & salt resistant

Holds its colour and shape through pool chemicals and seawater, wash after wash.

How we test it

The checks every fabric batch goes through before it’s approved for a Nahr style.

Test What we check Standard we hold
Wet opacity Fabric stretched over hand under running water No visible skin tone or shape through the fabric
Stretch recovery Fabric pulled to 150% and released, repeated 20 times Returns to original shape, no sagging or thinning
Colourfastness Exposure to chlorinated water and direct sun over 30 days No visible fading against control swatch
Seam strength Seams pulled to breaking point under tension Holds beyond normal swimming movement range
Care

Looked after properly, it lasts seasons, not weeks.

Modest swimwear works harder than a standard costume — more fabric, more seams, more time in chlorine and salt. A little care goes a long way.

  • RinseCold fresh water straight after every swim
  • WashCold machine wash, gentle cycle, similar colours only
  • DryLine dry in shade — no tumble dryer, no direct sun
  • AvoidFabric softener, bleach, and rough surfaces like sunbeds
  • StoreFully dry, folded flat, out of direct sunlight

Fabric questions

The ones we get asked most before people order.

Will it actually stay opaque when wet?

Yes — every fabric is tested under running water at full stretch before it’s approved. If it doesn’t pass, we don’t use it, regardless of how it looks dry.

Is it heavy or clingy once it’s wet?

No. It’s a lightweight four-way stretch fabric, so it moves with you rather than weighing you down, and it’s cut with enough ease that it doesn’t cling to the body.

How long does it take to dry?

Quick-dry as standard — most pieces are damp-free within an hour or two out of direct water, depending on humidity and how it’s laid out to dry.

Is the fabric different between the women’s and men’s ranges?

Same core fabric technology across both, with weight and structure adjusted slightly per style — men’s pieces use a slightly heavier hand-feel through the body for a more relaxed, non-clingy fit.
